As part of the celebration of the 30th anniversary of Habitat for Humanity Honduras, a group of 50 women leaders, solidarity and volunteers of this organization carried out this Saturday, March 9, the construction brigade of the project \u201cWomen Build, Women Supporting Women\u201d, through which three low-income families in the village of El Salitrillo, in Santa Rosa de Cop\u00e1n, benefited with the improvement of their homes.<\/p>\n

In Honduras, 53.3% of the total population are women, which in absolute terms represents 5,112,114 inhabitants. And 38.2% of households in Honduras are headed by women.<\/p>\n

Women Build, First Edition, is formed by a team of women leaders from Santa Rosa de Cop\u00e1n, with the objective of mobilizing and influencing the housing ecosystem by building communities, supporting families mainly with female heads of household seeking their prosperity with dignity, security and resilience, since gender gaps continue to determine social inequality in relation to land tenure, inadequate housing, lack of livelihoods, access to financing, inputs and other resources.<\/p>\n

In addition to housing improvement, this project includes training, community development, strengthening the social fabric of the community and supporting women with income generation and livelihood projects, among others.<\/p>\n

The volunteer work consisted of replacing dirt floors with concrete floors in the three houses in this community, which was founded in 1750 and is currently inhabited by 510 people.<\/p>\n

Women supporting women sends a positive and powerful message, as it gives women the opportunity to take a proactive step to serve their communities and build strength, stability and self-sufficiency for those in need of adequate housing.<\/p>\n

Women Build represents an excellent way to engage not only women volunteers but also friends and family of all ages in crucial work that also has a lasting impact on the community.<\/p>\n
