Omoa, Cortés, July 11, 2024.
On June 11, 2024, we signed an agreement with the Municipality of Omoa, Cortés, for the construction of a housing project to relocate 32 families from the community of Tegucigalpita, who lost their homes in 2020 due to the devastating effects of hurricanes Eta and Iota.
This project, whose investment will be more than 13 million lempiras, is an initiative of the Omoa Mayor’s Office, which had already relocated 20 families to the lot of land where it will be built, and which according to projections would be completed within 18 months.
The objective of the project is to provide adequate housing and thus strengthen the social fabric of the community by improving the livelihoods of at-risk families that have been affected by climate change.
In total, the project will benefit some 160 people by improving their living conditions, and to this end, they have been trained in basic knowledge of construction processes that will enable them to improve their livelihoods.
The project will help reduce the housing deficit in Honduras, which stands at 61.9% and mainly affects ethnic communities. According to reports from the National Statistics Institute (INE) updated to 2023, there are 2 million 544,629 homes and 2 million 613,199 households in the country, of which 9.4% are overcrowded.
