Dedication and delivery of homes to 14 families in Santa Rosa de Copán

Santa Rosa de Copán, June 15, 2024.

With an investment of 11 million 600 thousand lempiras, Habitat for Humanity Honduras delivered this Saturday, June 15, the ownership of 14 social housing units to an equal number of families in the housing project “Bosques de Esperanza II”, located in Los Angeles neighborhood, in Santa Rosa de Copán.

This is part of Habitat’s global vision, which to date has built more than 40 thousand housing solutions during its more than 30 years of presence in Honduras, where according to reports from the National Institute of Statistics (INE) updated to 2023, there are 2 million 544 thousand 629 homes and 2 million 613 thousand 199 households, of which 9.4% are in overcrowded conditions.

This project contributes to reducing the housing deficit that currently exists in Honduras, which is around 61.9%, mainly affecting ethnic communities, where Habitat has invested more than 205 million lempiras annually over the last 15 years.

Bosques de Esperanza II is a housing development that has all the basic services such as sanitary sewage, potable water, electricity and paved access; the houses are 45 square meters in size and each one has two bedrooms and a bathroom, as well as a kitchen, a sink and a false ceiling with thermal insulation that will help mitigate the high temperatures caused by climate change.

Habitat Honduras is grateful for the support of the volunteers who were actively involved in the project, identifying the land, making arrangements with various institutions and selecting the beneficiary families, as well as the local government and other organizations that facilitated the process so that these families now have a suitable place to live.
