Honduras.
Between May and June of this year, 48 families fulfilled their dream of owning their own adequate housing thanks to the efforts of Habitat Honduras through its regional offices in La Ceiba, Atlántida, and Tocoa, Colón, whose approximate amount of investment was 21.9 million lempiras for 35 scattered housing projects and two housing complexes of eight and five houses respectively.
The 13 houses that make up these two housing projects, called “Villa Yoli” in La Ceiba and “Palmeras” in Tocoa, were delivered on Friday June 28 and Saturday June 29 in ceremonies where the beneficiary families were witnesses of Habitat’s global vision: a world where everyone has an adequate place to live.
The houses all have two bedrooms, a bathroom, living room, dining room, kitchen, porch and false ceiling with thermal insulation to alleviate the high temperatures; and during their construction, the families themselves were involved as part of the process of bonding with their community.
Both projects contribute to reducing the housing deficit in Honduras, which is around 61.9% and mainly affects ethnic communities, where Habitat has also invested more than 205 million lempiras annually over the last 15 years.
According to reports from the National Statistics Institute (INE) updated to 2023, there are 2 million 544,629 homes and 2 million 613,199 households in Honduras, of which 9.4% are in overcrowded conditions.
