More than 900 people in La Paz will have access to better quality potable water

La Paz, Honduras.

Habitat for Humanity Honduras, together with the Association for the Integrated Management of Watersheds of La Paz and Comayagua (ASOMAINCUPACO), the Commonwealth of Municipalities of the South of the Department of La Paz (MAMSURPAZ), the municipalities of Santa Ana and San Antonio del Norte and the Administrative Board of Drinking Water and Sanitation of the community of San Miguel-Santa Ana; as well as MAMLESIP, EOS International, Water For People and the Para Todos Por Siempre (PTPS) movement, signed this Tuesday, February 27, a cooperation agreement that will benefit 935 people in the department of La Paz.

The agreement consists of the execution of two projects to improve the access and quality of drinking water service through the construction of two catchment works and their respective pipelines, which will increase the availability of the vital liquid in the communities of San Miguel, in Santa Ana; and El Cordoncillo, in San Antonio del Norte. Subsequently, a third community will also benefit, bringing them safe, quality water.

In addition, the project also includes the construction of an additional tank that will replace the old and obsolete distribution network and will connect all the beneficiary homes and provide better service to the community.

For its implementation, Habitat for Humanity Honduras will provide the amount of 644,731.03 lempiras for the purchase of materials, as well as to administer the project, carry out its proper monitoring, evaluation and follow-up and accountability to the donor.

The project will benefit 187 houses between the two communities involved, plus another 180 houses in its second stage, and will be led by ASOMAINCUPACO, which will manage and coordinate the contributions of the community and the Municipality of Santa Ana, as well as the support of MAMLESIP, EOS International, Water For People and the movement Para Todos Por Siempre (PTPS).

The municipalities of Santa Ana and San Antonio del Norte will provide the additional construction materials necessary for the execution and completion of the projects.

The project, which is valid for 6 months from the date of signature, also includes the training of the Water Boards of the communities involved, so that their inhabitants make proper use of drinking water.
