San Pedro Sula, Honduras
Habitat for Humanity Honduras successfully launched the “Women Build, Women Transforming Lives” project in San Pedro Sula. The event took place at the Honduran Arab Club and brought together approximately 30 women from different San Pedro Sula civil society organizations, who enthusiastically joined this cause that seeks to empower women through the construction of decent housing for families in vulnerable situations.
This is the first launch of Women Build in San Pedro Sula, after having previously been implemented in Santa Rosa de Copán and Tegucigalpa. The project, part of a global movement by Habitat for Humanity, an organization present in more than 70 countries around the world, encourages the active participation of women in advocacy and fundraising for housing construction and rehabilitation, particularly benefiting families headed by women.
During the event, participants shared experiences and highlighted the importance of strengthening women’s role in society, not only in terms of community leadership, but also in the construction of sustainable housing solutions. In addition, a presentation was given on the impact of Women Build in some communities across the country, showcasing success stories of families who have transformed their environment through volunteering and construction.
Martha Guillén, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity Honduras, highlighted the importance of women’s role in transforming communities and supporting each other. “When women come together, they can generate significant changes in the lives of other women and their families. Through Women Build, we not only build homes, but we strengthen the resilience and empowerment of those most in need, providing hope and opportunities to families led by women in vulnerable conditions,” she stated.

The event also featured the participation of volunteers and representatives of organizations and companies that have shown their support for the project, led by María del Rosario Selman-Housein, a leader in the country’s financial sector, who reaffirmed their commitment to gender equity and community development. The event concluded with an open invitation to more women from San Pedro Sula to join this initiative, promoting a positive and lasting impact on the lives of many families.
The launch in San Pedro Sula marks an important step in the expansion of Women Build in Honduras, consolidating Habitat for Humanity’s commitment to continue promoting access to safe and affordable housing for all.
