Thrivent Volunteers Bring Hope to a Family in Siguatepeque, Honduras

Siguatepeque, Honduras
With hearts ready to serve, a group of international volunteers from Thrivent, a nonprofit financial organization based in the United States, arrived in Honduras to join the mission of building a home for a family in need of adequate housing.

Over the course of a week, seven volunteers are working side by side in Siguatepeque, helping construct the new home of Selenia Bueso, who currently lives with her family in a deteriorated house with a leaking roof and precarious living conditions.

“I’m so grateful to the volunteers for the support we’ve received. The house we’re in right now has so many leaks, and my family and I feel a deep urgency to change our home. In God’s name, that will soon be possible,” said Selenia with emotion as she watched the progress being made on the site where her new home is being built.

The Thrivent volunteers are not only offering their labor but also bringing with them a deep spirit of solidarity. Their work reflects the Christian values at the core of their organization and aligns perfectly with the vision of Habitat for Humanity Honduras: a world where everyone has a decent place to live.

The experience in Honduras has touched the hearts of every member of the volunteer team.

“My experience in Honduras has been wonderful. Everyone is so kind and helpful, and I’m very happy to be here doing this and to have the chance to help meet the needs of families,” shared Susan Spain, one of the volunteers.

Stephanie Rodriguez, another volunteer, offered a deeply personal perspective: “It’s been really special to meet the family because I’m also a Habitat for Humanity homeowner in the United States. I know the joy and happiness that comes from receiving support from this organization.”

Thrivent has supported similar volunteer missions in countries such as El Salvador, Guatemala, Paraguay, and Romania, among others—spreading its message of faith and service far beyond borders. Its commitment to human dignity is a powerful example of how volunteerism can transform lives.

Habitat for Humanity Honduras is deeply grateful to each volunteer for their dedication and generosity. Building a home also means building a new beginning—and thanks to the helping hands of these volunteers, many Honduran families are seeing their dreams come true.
