  • 3.6 million Hondurans lack access to clean drinking water.
  • 5.2 million do not have safely managed water and sanitation systems.

Families supported in Copán with WASH solutions. And in San Pedro Sula, in partnership with SELAVIP, Children International, and Durman.

How We Do It

We support families and communities by constructing, improving, or expanding water and sanitation systems to ensure access to safe water in compliance with the human right to universal and equitable access to clean water and adequate and sustainable sanitation and hygiene services (SDG 6). We work on housing improvement and rehabilitation projects that include vital components to be considered suitable for habitation, such as:

  • Training: All families receive capacity-building on water usage and management and healthy housing.
  • Support and guidance to community boards and Water Boards for managing water and sanitation projects.
  • Delivery of clean drinking water in emergency situations.
  • Septic tanks, sinks, sanitary modules, water storage tanks, showers, toilets, biodigesters, water filters, and Home Water Harvesting Systems.

Changing Lives with Access to Safe Water

Gloria, supported with a sanitary unit in the community of El Quesero, Santa Cruz de Yojoa, Honduras.

It was difficult not to have a bathroom where we could meet our needs with privacy and with water to clean or wash our hands. My granddaughter and I are the happiest, so much so that the girl is always eager to clean it every day.

Norma, beneficiary of a sanitary unit.

To date, 1,952 families from different ethnicities have been supported.

Our Partnerships

Habitat is part of the Movement for Everyone Forever –Movimiento Para Todos Por Siempre (PTPS), Water Supply and Sanitation in Honduras. Additionally, we establish partnerships with local governments, allied NGOs like SELAVIP and Children International, community boards, associations for water supply and sanitation, and private companies like Amanco, ensuring the sustainability of projects during their operation and maintenance phase.
